June 18th 2016 Winchfield Festival presents:

Steve Waterman Big Band

Steve Waterman Hi Res

Steve Waterman is one of the top British jazz trumpet players both at home and on the international scene. He has worked on the British and European jazz scene with John Surman, Andy Sheppard, Tony Coe, Carla Bley, Don Weller and many others.

Steve also leads his own 18-piece big band, with a multi-award winning line-up which features some of the most celebrated names in British Jazz. The band was born from a mutual respect between these musicians, and the desire to play Steve’s superb compositions to the highest possible standard.

The concert programme will feature original compositions by Steve, as well as arrangements of jazz classics that he has written for the band, including the music of such notable jazz giants as Louis Armstrong, Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie, Clifford Brown, Benny Golson and Miles Davis.

Featuring:

Trumpets: Steve Waterman, Mike Lovatt, Martin Shaw, Tony Dixon, Derek Lawton
Saxes: Simon Allen, Matt Wates, Karen Sharp, Jo Fooks, Mick Foster
Trombones: Mark Nightingale, Gordon Campbell, Ian Bateman, Sara Williams
Rhythm: Gareth Williams (piano), Marianne Windham (bass), Clark Tracey (drums)

The concert is being held in the marquee on the meadow next to Winchfield’s historic Norman church, St Mary’s. The marquee provides a wonderful venue to enjoy the music in a beautiful country setting and visitors are very welcome to picnic before the performance to make the most of the summer evening with friends!

There’s free parking on site and usually this is accommodated in the meadow. In case of very bad weather there may be a short walk to the venue.

St Mary’s Church and meadow are located in the Hampshire village of Winchfield on Bagwell Lane, RG27 8DB.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £19 from the Winchfield Festival website.
