Threebop ‘A Sleepin’ Bee’ Debut EP Launch

Three of London’s vibrant young jazz voices come together to create their own take on vocal jazz harmony singing. Inspired by the music of bebop legends and the vocalese tradition, Ella Hohnen-Ford, Rosina Bullen and Luca Manning perform their own arrangements with tight vocal harmonies and improvisation. Each of these vocalists brings their own personality and distinct sound to the music, culminating in a refreshing and engaging performance. Their resident rhythm section features some of the most in demand young players on the scene.

The Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley album ‘A Sleepin’ Bee’ is one of the most successful vocal jazz albums of all time. After the passing of Nancy Wilson in 2018, Threebop decided to arrange and re-orchestrate some of their favourite tracks to perform together while honouring the trademark sound of the album. They kept some of Nancy’s phrasing and original horn lines whilst expanding the sound for three voices which gave the vocalists scope to play with new ideas. The resulting EP is perfect for those who loved the original recording and pays tribute to two amazing artists who have inspired the group.
