Jazz East Platinum Jubilee Festival

The Jazz East Festival is back! This year we present The Jazz East Jubilee, a free open air jazz music festival held on Platinum Jubilee Day, Saturday 4th June 2022 in the historic Barking Abbey Ruins in Barking, East London, to celebrate 70 years of great jazz in Great Britain since Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne.

Working alongside the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham as part of their Summer of Festivals programme, we’re telling the story of jazz over the past seven decades but with an East London spin. All the acts on the day will have links either to the Borough or to East London and Essex.

This is the first jazz festival of its kind in Barking, and we’re excited to be hosting it here on the East London and Essex borders… or as we like to call it, the RIGHT SIDE of London!

Jazz East Jubilee gates open at 3pm with the Brass Bottom Boys leading a New Orleans-style jazz parade to the stage where the Stewart Curtis Quintet will showcase the iconic jazz of the 50s. Top jazz East London-based piano trio Tomalin, Manington, Davis will tell the story of Dagenham’s very own TV & Hollywood Superstar Dudley Moore and then, to get everyone dancing, Cong-Fusion will hit the stage with their new album heavily influenced by jazz, funk and fusion of 80s and 90s. Bringing things up-to-date with contemporary jazz themes, The Sultan Stevenson Trio will fill the ruins of Barking Abbey with some phenomenal afrobeat-influenced jazz, warming the audience up in time for headliner Snowboy and The Latin Section to round off the day with our Jazz East Jubilee Jazz Dance Party.
